One thing I like about January is the way every day is just a little bit longer than the one before. The weather is still cold and the sky generally gray (at least in Ithaca, where the truism is that you don't see the sun from November to March), but I am typing this at quarter past five and the sky outside my eastern window is still a medium shade of bluish-gray, and to the west the yellow-orange glow of sunset is just fading in the lower branches of the trees.

Only a few weeks ago, it was pitch black at five on the dot.

Slowly but surely, the sun is coming back. :-)
