Eh, all these wordcounts/chapter counts are estimates, and I have a long and consistent track record of being off on those estimates. Generally I underestimate (which is why I've actually highballed some of these guesses from what's written in my files), but I've also been known to plan for a long and wordy scene only to realize I can get through the necessary information more effectively and appropriately for the characters in about three sentences. *sigh*
With "The Courting Dance," I know more or less what needs to happen, so the trick is mostly figuring out which parts to tell in which POVs, and what is best left implicit between chapters. And 12,000 words in three months is not a huge amount of work, all things considered. (At various times in the past, I have written more than that many words in a single week. I wouldn't recommend that as a regular habit, but it's certainly doable.)
