stuff done: Friday-Tuesday
Jan. 24th, 2017 11:27 pm1. Bought groceries after my Friday shift at Not the IRS.
2. Paid February rent.
3. Boiled a dozen eggs.
4. Emailed the DRE about the Stewardship campaign.
5. Attended church, since it was a drama program Sunday and youth group was therefore superseded. I then spent an hour doing coffee hour cleanup, which I'd signed up for as a hospitality team task. I will be doing cleanup the next two Sundays as well, and have also agreed to bring snacks, which in my case means I will be baking brownies. (Brownies are low effort and almost everyone likes them. This is a good equation for me. *wry*)
6. Cooked a batch of pot roast. I also threw out the rest of my bag of baby carrots, since they had gone... let's just leave it at 'strange' and move on, yeah? I don't really do much with baby carrots except make pot roast -- I haven't really been feeling chicken soup for a while now -- which means I don't use them up nearly fast enough. I should probably find some other carrot recipes. Maybe something involving roast vegetables?
(I find carrots revolting when steamed or boiled. They are okay when used as an ingredient in a strongly flavored broth and cooked to death in a crock pot: i.e., pot roast, chicken soup, corned beef, etc. And they're okay roasted with herbs and stuff, though not nearly as good as roasted cauliflower... which is, incidentally, another vegetable I dislike steamed but am okay with in soups.)
7. Changed linens.
8. Photographed my kitchen table plants. :)
9 Harvested the decapitated pepper's two fruits.
10. Collected trash from wastebaskets and put the bag in the outside trash can. It's still not full enough to take to the curb. Maybe in another month or two. (I recycle and/or compost everything they will physically let me recycle and/or compost, and I am a single person living alone. I accumulate trash pretty slowly.)
11. Entered my federal and state representatives and senators into my phone as contacts, which should hopefully remove some of the mental/emotional barrier to calling them periodically. *crosses fingers*
12. Failed to donate blood for health reasons; rescheduled appointment for next week.
13. Finished a Cotton Candy Bingo fic, which was also a prompt fic for
madamehardy. Yay progress! I have started on my next backlogged Cotton Candy Bingo/prompt fic; this one is an Enchanted Forest Chronicles fic for
wistfulmemory.
I have thus far been keeping my 2017 resolution to write something every day. Some days it's not very much, but I'm finding that 'write something' is a much more psychologically rewarding phrasing than some versions I've used in the past. The goal is always the same -- WRITE MORE! -- but this way I get to check it off my to-do list each day and feel good about myself and my work, whereas phrasing the daily goal as 'write X number of words' usually set me up for failure, and then I'd get discouraged and grumpy and self-critical, which is not an attitude very conducive to creativity.
14. Shoveled snow from my sidewalk before heading to work on Tuesday morning.
15. Chopped up my recently harvested peppers, along with three medium-smallish onions and four chicken thighs (plus other peppers previously chopped) and made a batch of fajita filling. Saved the excess sauce for dipping bread or something; I'll figure it out as I go.
16. Took compost from my various cooking adventures to the outside bin.
17. Applied more sealant to the base of my kitchen sink's faucet, since it was starting to slide around a little bit again and that's a precursor to leaks. :(
18. Started working through a Not the IRS introductory Pennsylvania income tax course, since I live close enough to that state that we get a few clients who either live here and work there, or vice versa, so it's good to have some basic familiarity with those tax forms.
