1. Yesterday it was 60 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny. In Ithaca. In January.

I'm not sure whether I should blame this on global warming or just Friday the 13th weirdness. *ponders* Well, the entire week was freakishly spring-like, actually, so I think I'll go with global warming. It's not that I don't appreciate warm weather, you understand, but this is just not normal!

2. Yesterday I finished reading Guy Gavriel Kay's Fionavar Tapestry trilogy. I am... ambivalent about it. On the one hand, there are some absolutely beautiful moments in there, but on the other, you can really tell it's his earliest work. He managed to make all the disparate pieces fit together, but there are obvious awkward places in the way he fits it all together, particularly when it comes to the whole Arthur/Guinivere/Lancelot thing. And there are a number of places where he doesn't go into the depth needed to fully convey the effect he's reaching for; this is one set of books that I actually think should be longer instead of hacked at with a red pen!

Also, I remain convinced -- reader's right of interpretation, since he doesn't make anything explicit one way or the other -- that Kim and Dave are merely true friends at the end, instead of getting shoehorned into an out-of-the-blue romance. *nods firmly*

3. Clearly, sequels are the way to go if you want reviews -- I have nearly 90 for "Guardian" on ff.net, and I've only posted three chapters! That's just ridiculous. Flattering, but ridiculous.

4. Gift story word counts: "Finding Marea" is at 6,400. "Beauty" is at 6,100. "Learning to Listen" is at 5,100. Damnit, I will get these finished! I've finally reached the crisis point in "Beauty," I've almost coaxed Larachine into telling her version of Marea's story, and I have sketches of the missing pieces in "Learning to Listen." The trouble, as always, is translating the story in my head into words on the page... or, in some cases, putting words on the page so I know what the blasted story is. *bangs head against desk*

5. I wrote Duo's section of "Lemonade" chapter 3 last night, but it kind of sucks and I might end up scrapping it completely. Still, it's given me a better sense of what should go there.

6. I worked out what the extra scene in "Secrets" chapter 10 needs to be, and will start writing it tonight. Go me!

7. This morning I attended an ingathering of second-semester RE teachers, which finished an hour ahead of schedule. Sadly, none of my fellow 1st grade teachers were there, so I still haven't met them. On the other hand, I got tea and a raisin bagel, which makes up for a fair bit of disappointment. ;-)

*lurker delurks momentarily* I agree with what you say about the Arthur-Guinivere-Lancelot triangle. It just seemed really... out of nowhere.
