honesty bites

There are times when it sucks to be a decent person.
I just found $15 lying on the floor outside the computer lab. Nobody was in sight. It would have been so easy to just pocket the money and walk off...
And I would've eaten myself up inside over it ever after.
I've turned it in to the convenience store, since the building's service counter is currently closed. I hope whoever dropped the money gets it back.
(And ten thousand curses on them for putting temptation in my path! Damnit, I need a job. I'd be less conflicted if I had more money in the bank.)

Date: 2006-01-17 10:17 pm (UTC)Making Naruto costumes was quite a lucrative second job for me until I realized I had been literally working, sewing, and sleeping for six months and decided I had to cut back on the costumes and handed the business off to a friend who got pregnant and needed some supplemental income...
since then I've gotten into teaching cooking classes for our local adult ed department (don't need a teaching degree to teach adults) and also into freelance design and proofreading as second job opportunities with hours I'm more in control of. Neither of them is a great sole source of income, but they're also better than nothing...

Date: 2006-01-17 11:16 pm (UTC)I am thinking about advertising my services on campus as a proofreader for academic papers, but I don't know if people would take me up on it if I charge money. I also keep applying for jobs, but nobody is hiring me, and that's really not helping my state of mind or sense of self-worth.
