job interview, NaNo, and voting

It was a little hard to get to, though; the directions I was given were... less than accurate. In fact, they led me off in the wrong direction entirely. I had to ask at a nearby car dealer in order to find the right street. *growl*

Wrote a little more for NaNo -- am at 4,250 words -- but also spent time doing brief character sketches of the people in Ranna's court. I already know most of the people in Talin's half of the story, but it hit me as I was writing that there are a lot of people mucking around in a royal palace, and in particular, the lords of the Inner Council are important to the plot.
So I've been hashing that out.
The novel (still untitled) is basically the story of a large, sprawling and disorganized country that's in danger of falling apart from internal and external pressures, and of two people who are caught up in trying to prevent that. One is Ranna, the queen, and the other is Talin, a young man with a special talent.
The fun part is that it's fantasy without being High Fantasy -- in other words, no great magic, no elves, no true and noble quests, etc. The magic's kind of unreliable, and this is as much a character story (in some ways) as a plot-driven story. Plus I get to attack moral questions and political theories and stuff like that. Then again, most serious things I write have moral questions in them somewhere, so that's not particularly surprising.

Did not vote today. I voted WEEKS ago, via absentee ballot. *preens* But congrats to all who made it to the polls! Go democracy!
