bones and words

I keep beating my head against the sequel to "Tides." See, I'd planned to do it in roughly the same form -- 9 or 10 chapters, alternating POV, etc. -- but the mission in River Country wants to be sort of its own thing. It keeps jumbling in my head, and wanting to be told in quick cuts and flashbacks, very moody and so on, and mostly as told by Sakura.
I started writing it a couple times, and I keep having to scrap it because the story hasn't gelled yet. It doesn't have a structure for me to hang the words on, and that is incredibly frustrating.
I am now thinking that the River Country mission may end up being its own story, called "Undertow." And the let's-kill-Itachi storyline (still titled "Leaves") will then pick up a few months later. The thing is, this mission is dark, and having it right at the start of the die-Itachi-you-bastard plot would kind of skew the balance of that story.
I think I'm going to figure out logistics for "Locked Room Problems" instead. At least there, I know the underlying structure of what happens. I just need to hash out the details.
