Okay, I lied about having "Knives" edited by Monday.

It is surprisingly hard to actually sit down and twiddle with the mechanics of a story that's all about graphic torture, emotional/mental angst, and dark sexual subtext. (Or maybe that's not surprising, really.) And fiddling around with an actual plot structure takes more thought than just cutting stuff out or reformulating dialogue.

*sigh*

On the other hand, I did get some more furniture put together while I was avoiding the story, all my fiction books are once again alphabetized, and I've pruned about 25 books to sell to used book stores. I still have to sort through the nonfiction and the German literature, though.

Ardis, my step-grandmother, is fighting off a fungal lung infection she picked up in France a couple months ago. She has trouble eating, and is very weak and tired -- we're glad to know she doesn't have cancer, and that the infection IS treatable, but everyone's kind of worried about the way she's not improving very much even with the treatment.

I will be heading out to Minnesota the first week of August, mostly to be at the lake, but I hope to see her en route. And I hope she's feeling better by then!
