Storytime, week 2

Yesterday was the second week of RE classes (and regular church services). Dawn and I were scheduled to teach, but Mark was around as well, which turned out to be very fortunate because it was a large class. We also had two parents sit in, which was even more helpful.
Dawn started us off by singing some group songs -- the elephant song, Old MacDonald, Row Row Row Your Boat, and so on -- and then read the story, When Summer Ends. Then we made posters of the four seasons, broke for some free play and a second story (about a boy and an apple tree) while Mark and I cleaned up the tables. We finished with grapes and water for snack.
We've agreed that the lead teacher should be waiting in the classroom when the kids arrive from downstairs, and should have some mats arranged in a circle to provide a routine and keep the kids from scattering to the corners. I have next week off, but the one after that I'll be leading the class, and I really hope I have a good store of distracting short activities worked up to keep catching and redirecting the kids' attention!
---------------------------------------------
Apparently I can actually download files from hotmail to public library computers now, at least if I save them instead of trying to open them directly from the internet. That means I don't have to wait until I get up to Cornell's computer labs to send files to beta. Occasionally, technological progress is actually helpful. :-)
---------------------------------------------
I got my hair cut today! I'd been putting it off for nearly two weeks now, mostly because my schedule was not meshing well with the haircutters' hours (and partly because I really am that lazy, forgetful, and distractible), but today I got off work at 4pm and went straight to Center Ithaca. And now my hair is no longer flopping into my eyes or doing that weird little flip at the back of my neck.
Life is good.
...
Now all I need to do in order to have my most productive day of the past several weeks is do my laundry, write a thousand words, and bake the pork chops I defrosted two days ago.
...
I somehow doubt all those things will happen.
Oh well, naps are good too. :-)
