I actually have part 16 of "An Ounce of Prevention" written, but I'm holding off on posting it until I also have part 17 (and possibly part 18) finished, because I want to make sure the whole scene flows right and has functional internal logic, even though I'm chopping it apart in one or two places for length requirements. (This will also give me time to make sure the pacing winds up the tension at each scene break.)
Part 17 is about halfway done (going by length), though I'm not sure how many more words it will take to get Sakura back into her own mind, and then back into waking reality. Originally I thought I could manage the whole diary-interior scene in two chapters at most, but I underestimated the amount of stuff I needed to get across -- scene-setting, exposition that becomes important to the plot, and ordinary connective passages. And once I got Sakura and Tom actually confronting each other, I realized that I needed two specific things to happen, but I had no idea what mechanism to use in order to make those things seem remotely plausible, or even possible within the flow of logical reactions (given that Tom is an overconfident jerk and Sakura is, after all, a trained ninja).
Fortunately, they're in a mindscape, so normal rules need not apply 100%. *grin* And I found a rational mechanism for the other thing, so that's all right too.

In real life news, AD is back at the smoke shop. It turns out that the newspaper people misrepresented either her hours or her salary, and since reporting requires a lot more driving (and thus more gasoline) than working at a store, she would have ended up losing money. Jerks.
I've agreed to work the closing shift on Memorial Day, since I have no other plans, and since I want to pull overtime that week. (One of the few minor benefits of being full-time is that I get paid 8 hours for major holidays, whether I work on them or not. So if I then work a normal week, I end up earning several hours overtime pay. It's nice.) The overtime will help compensate for a three-day weekend I hope to take in June.
See, I think I can manage Cat's wedding with only two days off. Friday I drive to Massachusetts, check in, go through the rehearsal dinner, etc. Saturday is the wedding and reception, after which I either drive home in one fell swoop, arriving sometime between midnight and 2am, or I check into a cheap motel around the NY border and do the last few hours Sunday morning. Either way, I'll be able to close the store Sunday evening.
But for the bridal shower the week before, I'll be going down to Madison... and as long as I'm going down there, I might as well take an extra day and have a proper visit with my parents. :-)
