I think I am scarred for life.

------------------------------

I was taking a nap, and I had a terrible dream in which Rabbit was feeding Winnie the Pooh lots of honey so he couldn't get out of his burrow; you see, he wanted to keep Pooh there as his sex slave. And then Pooh stuck his head out of the hole to see what the weather was like, and Kanga and Roo happened along and wondered why they hadn't seen him lately.

Pooh explained that he had visited Rabbit, eaten a bit too much, and couldn't get through the door now. But the burrow was quite comfortable, and Rabbit always had an extra pot of honey around, so he didn't particularly mind.

Kanga became suspicious, and was going to tell Christopher Robin that Rabbit was keeping Pooh prisoner, but Rabbit found out about this and managed to bash her and Roo over their heads with a frying pan and feed them to Eeyore, who had mysteriously changed from a donkey to a hyena.

Eeyore coughed out a bone, asked how Pooh was doing lately, and wondered if Kanga had any more relatives.

Rabbit leered, said Pooh was just fine, thank you, and he'd be sure to tell Eeyore if he ran across anyone looking for Kanga.

I cannot BELIEVE this came out of my head.

Also, a question: what is the difference between Christmas dinner and Christmas tea, and at what time of day would each meal occur? Because Hermione explains her plan after Christmas dinner, but she, Harry, and Ron don't feed the chocolate cakes to Crabbe and Goyle until after Christmas tea.

Honey, wait until you have kids and you've had to listen to the Little Mermaid soundtrack 1001 times. You'll think of things to do to princesses, dalmatians, and singing crusteans that will make this look tame.

The difference is, you will feel no guilt.

My sister is 18 and she *still* does this with the movies that she likes. After a week straight, even I could recite the lines to Titanic and I avoided that movie with a passion.

I think dinner = lunch, maybe around noonish or so, and tea is kind of like a midafternoon snack? 3-4PM? An actual Brit would probably know for real, though, I'm just guessing. :-P

I think you're right about Christmas dinner being served at midday. But if Christmas tea was at the Weasleys', it was probably a light evening meal served relatively early (i.e. between 5 and 7 p.m.). My English friend Sue always makes tea for her daughters around the same time I'm making dinner for my kids. This is also known as "high tea," not to be confused with "afternoon tea," which is the fancy tea-and-crumpets tea served around 3-4 p.m. But Sue never says "high tea," she just says something like "Time to go home, girls, we're having fish sticks for tea."

Chocolate cakes wouldn't become seriously stale between midday and evening. And even if they did, IMO, you don't have to be a complete idiot to think that slightly stale chocolate cake is better than no chocolate cake. I'd take slightly stale chocolate cake over no chocolate cake any day (unless creme brulee were the alternative).

I wonder if Hermione is a good cook? She could be completely incompetent in the kitchen, but I think it's more likely she's incredibly careful and precise and gets frustrated with recipes that say things like "salt to taste."
