Spirit Play, week 8; work, argh
Oct. 27th, 2008 12:59 amToday's lesson was "A Pledge to the Earth," which, like last week's lesson, involves laminated cut-out photocopies of the illustrations from a very tacky picture book by Aline D. Wolf. I had to start by explaining that no, this was NOT the Pledge of Allegiance, and that a pledge was a fancy way of saying 'a promise.' (I know, that's a simplification, but I am teaching six-year-olds.)
We had six kids in the class today, plus all three teachers, which worked out perfectly since there were nine illustrations. After the story, we drew and decorated pictures of the earth, and then had snack. For the next two weeks, we're supposed to knock off at 11:30 and take the kids over to the Annex for choir practice, whether they're normally in the children's choir or not -- apparently there's a Big Event planned for Nov. 16th that involves every available child singing one or two songs. I'm not sure what that will do to RE lessons, but I'm sure it will work out somehow.
---------------
I slipped out of church a few minutes early, since I was covering the second half of AO's shift at the store. Sundays are usually slow, such that PM only schedules two people for most of the afternoon. I made an executive decision not to do a midday cashup, for which I am fully prepared to be yelled at tomorrow if PM is annoyed.
Also, JG, our new trainee, failed to properly close the basement refrigerator last night, so our half and half was more or less at room temperature from 4:30pm Saturday through to 4:30pm Sunday. If it goes sour, I will point and laugh.
(Well, no, I won't, because first, that's rude; second, it could happen to anyone and he's new, so we're still cutting him some slack; and third, it's more annoying than amusing. But if I were a crueler person, mocking would definitely be in the cards.)
It was a very slow night, especially once the sky clouded over and it began to rain, so I killed time by getting half of the coming week's inventory done early. Occasionally I am productive like that. :-)
