"Secrets" ch. 14 is now at 5,350 words in rough draft. Complete with even more discussion of the life cycle of moss. (Dear subconscious: WTF? Seriously, WTF? No love, Liz.) Also some actual relevent dialogue between Xanthe and Ginny, and I just realized I have no damn clue how to wrap up their conversation.

Oh well, I suppose I'll have Sprout restart her lecture after the mid-class break and see what Xanthe decides to do.

In other news, the Corning Museum of Glass is really, truly, seriously dead cool. If you're in the Finger Lakes region, definitely go see it! Plan to take several hours. You want to read the info blurbs as well as look at the exhibits. Also, they have live demos of glassblowing, glass-breaking, and so on. It is very, very cool.

(My one quibble is that it's very Western Civ. focused. The Innovation Center galleries are all about modern glass-making, so it makes sense to focus mostly on Europe and America, since that's where the technical cutting edge was in the 20th century. The Glass Collection galleries, on the other hand, are historical, so you'd think they would be global, right? Wrong. They have lots of glass from around the Mediterranean, in Europe, in the Middle East, and in North America after European colonization, but they say nothing or almost nothing about sub-Saharan Africa, India, China, Japan, southeast Asia, Australia, the pre-Columbus Americas, etc. This is a BIG gap.)

Mom and I decided against paying to make our own glass, mostly because it has to anneal overnight and they charge a lot for shipping (as well as the regular charge for the glass-making session) and honestly, what would anyone ever do with a glass flower? I have enough useless knick-knacks as it is. :-)
