No one means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words are slippery and thought is viscous.
---Henry Brooks Adams

Amen, brother.

-------------------------------------

In other news, I survived my third day at my new job, and (theoretically) learned how to close the store. I think I remember maybe two thirds of the procedure. Fortunately, I get to do it at least three more times with a partner before I have to do it alone.

I also wrote another G/H/D ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree. This one's a double drabble -- that would be 200 words, exactly -- for theme #22: remembering. That brings me to 16 complete themes, and I have concrete ideas for three more themes.

However, I need to work on "Guardian" and "Secrets" instead. And my very belated holiday stories!

Yup. But, would you want to live in a world where it wasn't that way?

Hmm. I can see that, yeah, but for me it's always been like the, er, solidity that words acquire while they're being put down is what makes the story a story, rather than an acid trip or Hunter S. Thompson article - that the 'thought' we end up with at the finish line, and that, if we're lucky, some part of us was aiming at all along, does not and cannot exist without the ordering process of writing - before you do that, you don't even have a real thought, you've got a dream at best and vague mist at worst...

But all of that's beside the point I was thinking of, which is that difficulty in communication is part and parcel with privacy and, taken farther, identity. One of the reasons I loathe Evangelion so much is that it takes that issue and adds in Cool Giant Robots... everything needed for something both massively entertaining and genuinely worthwhile... then wastes them, drowns them in a mix of pain, deceit, and adulterated LSD.

...that was a tangent, wasn't it?

*shrug* Ah, well.
