Liz's list of currently active stories

I keep writing and writing, and yet nothing seems to get finished or posted. *sigh*

I thought I'd put up the list of stories I consider at least potentially active, just to show what I'm working on at the moment. (Stalled stories are included, but they must have a certain spark still alive in my mind. I have other false starts that just aren't going anywhere, for one reason or another, which I'm not listing here. I'm also leaving off vast amounts of original material which I'm not actively paying attention to at the moment, though they're all quite alive and kicking and refusing to shut up in the back of my mind.)

This is where my stories stand, as of the end of March.

Original:
Finding Marea -- 10,100 words
Beauty -- 6,650 words
Harvest -- 6,450 words (an Ekanu story)
The Sum of Things -- 21,450 words (this is my novel, if you were wondering)

Harry Potter:
Secrets -- chapter 10 (7,050 words), 5 more chapters
More Subtle... -- chapter 1 (8,200 words), chapter 2 (350 words), chapter 3 (none)
Fixation -- 22 of 30 written; 12 posted
Strange Likenesses -- must outline chapters 3 and 4
Aphrodisia -- 1,450 words, stalled
The Grace of God -- 850 words, stalled
The Dragon Debacle -- 1,600 words ("Secrets" sidestory)

Naruto:
Guardian -- chapter 5 (700 words), ?? more chapters
Undertow -- 1,125 words

Other:
Lemonade (BtVS/Gundam Wing/Naruto) -- chapter 5 outlined, ? more chapters
More or Less the Same (BtVS) -- chapter 5 (400 words), ? more chapters, stalled
Balance (Labyrinth) -- 5 parts, 3,700 words (basically done, wants a bit of editing)

I may post the Labyrinth thing today, just to get it off my mind. It was written partially to see if I could manage Jareth/Sara (as opposed to the way I mocked the pairing in Minor Considerations), and partially because I got tired of the common assumption (at least in fanfiction) that the Labyrinth and Jareth are somehow related to the fay and the Otherworld of fairyland. There are some damn good stories written with that assumption, but I wanted to go in a different direction.

wow. i lost coutn after six or so hp stories...hwo cna you hadnle so many wips while havingsemignly many more inthe back of your head?
adn iagain don't recognize grce of god or afrodisia. humph. I dont' know why i'm tryign to keep up at all. i keep forgettign either the facesor the names .anyways..good luck wit hall of this. O hadn now that you've posted this you get an id ea and start soething new, right?

"The Grace of God" and "Aphrodisia" are stories I don't talk about much, because they're on hold at the moment and I'm not sure if they'll revive or give up and fade into limbo.

As for how I keep everything straight, I can't really tell you how I do it. I've just always been good at remembering stories and academically-related information. Unfortunately, my memory for day-to-day things is like a sieve. *grumble*

I thi kif iahd that many wips i woud lasl oremember the pltos etc. it'sj sut not liek me (and so abit amazing infact) to let myself gather up sucha pile of unfinished stuff liek you have now. oh perhaps....*loks at folder* hmph..nwo thati foudn outthat suddenly most of m remsustories fit in one 'verse....

Sorry, I didn't mean to! *pets you soothingly* I just get irritated at myself because I cannot maintain my focus on one story for all the tea in China, so I keep this exact display (minus a few editorial comments) in a file on my harddrive, just so I can prove to myself that yes, at least one word count has gone up since last time, even if the other umpitty-whatever stories are stuck in quagmires.

I just can't imagine having that many IDEAS at any one time :)) Not to mention trying to keep the storylines separate. As one of my college teachers once told me, "You don't have much to say, but you say it very well." I suspect I'm doomed to having very little to say, regardless of how well I say it.

I have the opposite curse: too many ideas. I want to write them all, but not every idea will make a worthwhile story, and some aren't my style, and some just don't go anywhere even though they seem promising at first, and anyhow, there just aren't enough hours in the day. *beats head on table*

I think in stories. I always have. And I can't explain how to get ideas, because this is just the way my mind works, and I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to stop. (Well, sometimes I think in pseudo-academic essays, but that's a different problem...)
