Today at work I:

-took updated photographs of several apartments for our website

-moved some large/heavy packages into apartments for tenants who haven't yet arrived in Ithaca

-received packages; signed out packages

-signed out keys to new tenants and gave the accompanying move-in information spiel

-signed in keys from departing summer subtenants

-scanned and uploaded lots of documents; updated tenant info in various databases and spreadsheets based on those documents; emailed copies of relevant documents to tenants and/or NYSEG

-explained our internet service (both technical details and payment rates) to a lot of people

-showed a tenant how to open their window and raise their blinds (yes, really)

-promised to show another tenant how to work their dishwasher and oven when they arrive in Ithaca

-helped several people navigate our online payment system, including one person who ran into a genuine glitch rather than just being bad at computers; I couldn't fix the glitch, but I found a workaround :)

-spent a lot of time on the phone fielding various "Help! How do I do Thing?" calls from tenants and/or their parents

-spent a lot of time on the phone fielding various "Help! Thing has gone wrong!" calls, several of which involved me saying, repeatedly, "You need to contact Maintenance. Do you still have their contact info, which we gave you when you moved in last week? No? Well, here is how to contact Maintenance. I'm sorry, but I am an office worker, not a plumber/electrician/locksmith/etc; I cannot come fix Thing myself. Please contact Maintenance," or some variation thereof

-same song and dance as above, except the people in question physically walked in to the office

-arranged several late arrival key pickups for next week

-updated our Craigslist ads

-received and processed mail

-explained to a tenant that they couldn't move in today because A) their lease doesn't start until Monday, and B) even if we were lenient on that front, their apartment wasn't ready yet; promised to check its status with Maintenance on Saturday and contact them with the results

-explained to another tenant that we can't let the shipping company they hired pick up the eighteen boxes of stuff they left behind after their lease ended, until and unless they pay the storage fee for making us deal with this mess; no response or payment had arrived as of closing on Friday

...

It is like being nibbled to death by incompetent ducks.
