On March 2nd, I am going to an evening wine-tasting event (six whites, six reds) to which I purchased tickets at my church's service auction this fall. I have to bring a tapas-style appetizer to share with the group.

This appetizer is going to have to be prepared the night before -- or possibly the morning of, if I get up a bit early -- and then survive being carted to work plus a full day (10am-6pm) in the office, where we only have a mini-fridge and a small microwave to store and reheat food.

Does anyone have recommendations for something relatively simple to make that will A) stand up to those conditions and B) taste good with wine?

(I mean, I can always just bring a cheese and cracker assortment, but that seems a bit like cheating...)

Tapenade. You pretty much just blend/chop the olives, slosh in a bit of lemon juice and olive oil, possibly add a smidge of anchovy paste, and voila. It doesn't need freezing and won't spoil for a day of being carried around, and it will go excellently with all the reds. Personally, I like equal parts kalamata and regular black olives with a handful of regular green salad olives. Maybe add a bag of sliced french bread or a box of table water crackers.

Some less-common cheeses would also do very nicely, though! A goat cheese. A brie. A manchego.

OMG manchego yes please. If your grocery store has membrillo (like a thick quince jelly), they also go together really well, for a sweet alternative in addition to tapenade.

I've made these for a similar event: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2014/01/whole-wheat-sables-with-zaatar.html

I've made these (in squares) just for snacks: https://smittenkitchen.com/2011/03/whole-wheat-goldfish-crackers/

But any kind of savory cookie/cracker/grissini you can make would be an excellent complement, would be very easy to prepare, and would travel and keep well.
