I need help from people who know Japanese and something about culturally appropriate names.

What would be a suitable name for one of Eiji's trading ships?

More than one name would be greatly appreciated, since I may have to talk about a bunch of ships at various points in the story, and I can't always refer to them as "so-and-so's ship" (where so-and-so is the captain).

I know around WWII they'd kind of adapted the Western ship-naming tradition with their own cultural background (generals, shoguns, Yamato (not kidding), etc). I don't know whether that tradition applied to non-iron ships built before Admiral Perry's arrival or whether they took Western naming conventions when they took Western building methods, though...

So, to summarize, avoid personal names and adding -maru on the end probably wouldn't hurt. Hmmm. Well, I was going with weather and birds on general impulses, and that seems like it wouldn't be too out of place.
