Today was surprisingly quiet at work -- we were expecting a lot more people coming in with key returns and last-minute sublet forms than we actually got. On the bright side, this did mean I got completely caught up with my paperwork and filing! My plan for tomorrow is to get all the 2019-20 parking permit tags ready to hand out.

On the less bright side (but unrelated to the day's quietness or lack thereof), I hit the end of one receipt book halfway through processing the day's batch of rent checks and made the unpleasant discovery that our most recently ordered batch of receipt books was the wrong kind. See, we use copy-paper receipts with three leaves -- white, yellow, and pink -- because we give the white copy to the tenant (or put it into their lease folder), staple the yellow to the check and send it down to our accounting office, and leave the pink in the receipt book so we have a readily accessible record of our recently received payments.

The new books only have two leaves -- white and yellow -- which presents a problem. I jerry-rigged around it today by making photocopies of each page as I went and then separating them with scissors to serve as the "receipt" copy that goes in the lease folders and stapling the white copies to the checks, but that's a pain in the neck and untenable in the long run. And it won't work to just not keep any copies in the book itself, because the bottom leaf is always made without perforations so it's not practical to tear them out.

Anyway, we will doubtless be ordering replacements on Tuesday. *sigh*
