Work today was... hmm... let's just go with "disrupted," since that covers all of the issues in a blanket term.

A) First, my computer got replaced. This is, on balance, a good thing -- the old one was getting kind of weird around the edges, so to speak. But it meant I spent the morning kind of kicking awkwardly around the office trying to come up with things to do that didn't require me to be at a functional computer. I made some extra floor plan copies, I ran tour notifications to various apartments, I did the parking lot rounds, etc. And handled packages, but they didn't start coming in until the tech guy was nearly done with the setup.

There was also some awkwardness where it turned out he needed a Microsoft account to download a copy of Office 365 to the new computer, but couldn't get our existing one to work so he tried to associate my Gmail account with a Microsoft account. I'm not sure he was able to walk all that back (though in the end he did find the correct company account), so if I ever have to acquire Office 365 for my own purposes, I'm not entirely sure if I'll run into complications from that mess. *hands*

Also my second monitor is not working because the new computer needs a different type of connector than the old one did, and Aunt Boss's husband (who is one of our two Maintenance department heads) needs to track one down. And I had to spend an hour or so recreating settings for some programs and devices (like the scanner, which is now wireless because reasons), which was annoying and still not finished, to say nothing of the way the changeover wiped my good paid version of Adobe and left me with the shitty free version that does literally nothing useful. *headdesk*

Anyway.

B) The second thing is that we had a company-wide meeting on very short notice. We only found out about it late yesterday afternoon, and Mom Boss and Aunt Boss got extremely frustrated trying to reschedule stuff around it in the last hour before they left work. Also it was held in a different downtown building from usual, so there was no pre-arranged parking. I drove down one of the two concierges from our fancy-schmancy building, and found a metered space a couple blocks away. Meanwhile Aunt Boss and Mom Boss were stuck in our office trying to hurry a group through a lease signing. *sigh*

The meeting was basically to hand out annual raises/summer bonuses, but also for our Agéd Owner to make a rambling (albeit fairly short) speech, which is a thing he likes to do. He didn't cross the line into outright illegality by forbidding us to discuss our bonuses and raises with each other, but he did strongly suggest that we keep them to ourselves. *deeper sigh* But I will tell the internet because what do I care: I got a 3.5% raise (with a check to make that increase retroactive to June 1), and a $250 summer bonus, both of which make my budget very happy. :D

Also, our Agéd Owner floated the idea of all the employees collectively deciding what our end-of-year bonuses should be (out of a collective pool whose amount he would set), but provided no practical mechanism for 1) how to decide whether or not to do that, 2) when to do the negotiations, and 3) how and when to communicated our results to upper management. I think we are all collectively hoping this idea will go away, because it sounds like a lot of stress and labor for no real benefit.

C) There was no single large third thing, just a bunch of small annoyances, such as:

1. A package addressed solely to [Firstname] at [building address] with no surname or apartment number to help clarify which of the tenants who share [Firstname] as their name and live in that building ordered the item. (It's also a generic Amazon package, so nothing potentially identifying on that front either.) I BCC'ed all the [Firstname] tenants to ask them to come see if it belongs to them.

2. After we went to the bother of arranging an apartment tour at a group's specific request, and I ducked out of the mingling/pizza portion of the company meeting early in order to get back to the office on time to show them around, none of them came.

3. Our phone system was intermittently down all day, which is just super helpful.

4. The two ads I posted last night on a new rental listing site were rejected. I called the number provided to figure out why, and discovered how astonishingly restrictive their listing terms are. You can't even place a link to your own website in the unit description! Anyway, I edited them and hit resubmit. We'll see what happens, but I think we will not rely as heavily on them as on our current mainstay advertising sites.

5. The newspaper was not delivered this morning.

And so on and so forth.

In conclusion, ARGH.

...

On the brighter side, I finished the test for one of my tax CE courses last night, and today I got through about half the test for another one. So that's something.
