public speaking is worth a couple drafts

Thinking out loud again:
I have to do the Board Minute at the service tomorrow morning. Since we don't have a lot to announce at the moment, what I'm supposed to do is basically introduce myself to the congregation, as part of a "meet the Board of Trustees" sort of thing. So.
---------------
My name is [Liz Culmer] and I've been attending First Unitarian off and on since I moved to Ithaca in 2000. I got more involved around 2005 when I began teaching RE and signed the membership book. I taught various age groups in RE for about a decade. More recently, I've been involved with hospitality teams and on the Stewardship Committee.
I agreed to join the Board because for me, the participatory aspect of organized religion is very important. You can be spiritual on your own, but there's power in groups, in joining together to work toward common goals and supporting each other on our various journeys. Because it's important to me that this congregation exist, I want to be part of keeping it alive and growing, and helping figure out where we go together.
Also, I want to remind you all that I am super introverted and bad at people, so if I can do this, anyone can. Help us make First Unitarian into the community YOU want and need!
---------------
...
...
Eh, it'll do as a draft. I'll tweak it some before tomorrow morning.
And now, lunch!
