small tasks

I brought my peppers and my eggplant in for the night, since the forecast is for the temperature to kiss freezing overnight. I think they will stay in until Tuesday, since the weekend looks to be chilly and on Monday the temperature won't break 40F until well after I'm at work.
Work was very slow today, which resulted in me writing about 550 words on the old WIP I've been poking at, as well as reading a quarter of a nonfiction book about the history of opium. (The book straddles the line between annoyingly wrong (because the authors are a doctor and a writer rather than professional historians and quote several popular misconceptions about various topics/areas) and usefully informative. I will report in more detail in my next book list post.)
After work I went to Target and purchased some new shirts/sweaters for the coming winter season. I don't buy new clothes every year, but now and then it's good to restock as things wear out or stop fitting right despite my best care with laundry methods. And I have much better luck with winter shirts at Target than I do in secondhand shops -- though I get the majority of my pants and jeans from secondhand shops, and several of my t-shirts, too (both work-appropriate and decidedly not).
Tomorrow I intend to bake banana bread: a new culinary experiment, for which I purchased a small bread pan as well as some banana bread mix and some bananas that I have been carefully letting (over)ripen and I think they're about ready now. Here's hoping it turns out well. :)
