daily update, Monday Jan. 27

I forgot to do this yesterday, didn't I? Whoops! Well, to summarize, on Sunday I:
1. Went to church, where I A) attended the service, B) counted and deposited the morning offering/collection, and C) helped facilitate a congregational conversation meeting about fundraising options.
2. Completely forgot to pick up my Celexa prescription renewal, because my memory is a sieve for daily tasks unless I am paying specific attention and/or have written the task down on my to-do list AND checked the list that morning for a reminder.
3. Worked 2-5pm at Not the IRS, where I completed and filed my own tax return since I had all the relevant documents. \o/ ...I wound up owing money both to the IRS and to the state of New York. :( The former is because of Advance Premium Tax Credit repayment (ugh), and the latter is because I still didn't quite get my state withholding tweaked correctly (argh). I think I may have finally fixed that for 2020?
4. Wrote ~200 words of the random Narnia bridge fic.
5. Continued listening to The Magnus Archives.

Moving on! Things I did today:
1. Rental company office 9am-7pm. Not quite so many packages today, but still a lot. Also several miscellaneous small problems to deal with, and a studio rental.
2. Wrote ~100 words of the Narnia bridge fic.
3. Continued listening to The Magnus Archives.
4. Baited two mousetraps and set them in the cupboard under my kitchen sink. The first trap went off around 8:30pm. The mouse wasn't quite dead (caught at a bad angle) so I bashed its head in a few times with a hammer until it stopped twitching and trying to squeak. (Poor thing. But it did NOT belong in my apartment.) I chucked the corpse out on the brush pile, scrubbed up the blood and mouse poop, and put the trap in some bleach-water solution to clean and sterilize it. I also moved the second trap up to the top shelf, since that's where the mice get in around the pipes.
The second trap went off at about 9:45pm. This time the angle was good and the mouse died almost instantly. I chucked this corpse out on the brush pile as well, and dumped the trap in with the other to sterilize. Then I baited and set two new traps (from the set of four I bought last Tuesday) in case there are still more mice invading my cupboards.
For the record: I do not use live traps because I don't check them anywhere remotely often enough to actually make them a humane capture method -- the mice would most likely starve and/or panic themselves to death before I found them -- and also because you have to cart mice at least several miles away before letting them go in order to confuse them enough that they don't just come straight back to your house. Since I don't have a car, that is clearly out of the question. And I don't use glue traps because they're horrifying. Snap traps aren't perfect, but for me they are the least bad option for dealing with mice once they've gotten indoors.
Obviously the best option of all is to prevent the mice from entering in the first place, and I do intend to hunt down some hardware cloth or something similar and see what I can do to block off the hole in the wall around the pipes that they come in through.
5. Took kitchen compost to the communal bin, which still has not been collected by the compost company. I really do need to text Landlord Dude about that...
Anyway, I am off to bed. I had a fascinatingly muddled dream last night, and I wonder if I can get a few aspects to replay if I think very hard about them as I fall asleep. :)
