daily update, Friday Jan. 31
Jan. 31st, 2020 09:48 pmThings done today:
1. Rental office 9am-7pm. Another slow day. I processed a couple leases, updated some of our online ads, and otherwise spent a fair amount of time websurfing.
2. Read a bit more of Sovereign; I am going to see if I can finish the book tonight.
3. Listened to another couple episodes of The Magnus Archives, which I continue to enjoy greatly. :)
4. Wrote ~225 words of Susan's super-belated gift story, which is mostly about establishing the worldbuilding and who my POV character is... but also building up to Dramatic Event #1 which kicks off the plot.
5. Did my monthly check-in for
getyourwordsout. My monthly target for a 75,000-word annual pledge was 6,352 (going on a ~205 words-per-day rate), and I hit 6,674. So, you know, not a huge amount over target, but still. I think that is more words than I wrote in any single month last year. :)
...Which I say with a grain of salt. See, it's hard to do accurate comparisons because I have never tracked words-per-day before, just words posted publicly in finished stories, and also I always round published wordcounts to the nearest multiple of 25 (or 50, or 100, or 500 -- I get less and less fine-grained the longer any given story becomes). Like, my published wordcount for January is only 2,300 words. Conversely, my published wordcount for some later months will presumably be much higher than my words-per-day count, since I hope and trust that some of the things I've been working on this month will be ready to post later this year, in months that don't correspond to when I did the bulk of the work on them.
Anyway, I am grateful for the
getyourwordsout progress tracking spreadsheets, because otherwise my wordcount records would be a giant mess. I have also been using wordcounter.net to check my daily progress because I find it to be more accurate than MS Word's internal word-counting function.
Anyway, I am off to have dessert and hopefully finish a book. :)
