Things done today:

1. See previous post for discussion of my morning woes.

2. Rental office 9am-7pm. As predicted, it was a very slow day -- we got no package deliveries at all, since apparently the delivery companies (even the USPS!) decided to write the day off. I did finish creating and posting our new ads, though, and processed a handful of leases. Also two of Mom Boss's kids spent the day at the office since the local schools were closed, which provided some occasional variety.

3. Wrote two more 3-sentence fills.

4. Read up to about halfway through Crooked Kingdom, and may continue reading tonight since I left off on a terrible cliffhanger.

5. Steamed broccoli as part of my dinner, which is good because I kept forgetting to do anything with the broccoli I'd purchased last week and fresh vegetables don't keep indefinitely.

6. Changed linens.

7. Phone call with Mom about logistics for their visit on Monday night and Tuesday morning. This is by way of being my birthday celebration. We will go out for a nice birthday dinner after I get out of work Monday evening, we'll have pflaumenkuchen for dessert at my apartment, and they will watch while I open a small handful of presents. Then we will have breakfast Tuesday morning, probably at my neighborhood diner, after which I will go to work at Not the IRS while they drive back to New Jersey. Our schedules just didn't align to do anything fancier, like a concert or one of those Met in HD productions you can find at movie theaters, which are things we have done in previous years.

It's a little annoying that I have to work on my birthday, but I deliberately set up this Sunday as a day of NOTHING, so I will consider that my small birthday gift to myself in lieu of getting the actual day off. (The thing about doing tax prep as a seasonal job is that it means I do not really HAVE days off until mid-April, except occasional Sundays when I mark myself unavailable because of prior commitments. I used to block Sundays off altogether, but that was when I had three days available for tax prep since I only worked part-time at the rental office. Now I feel like I ought to offer up half my Sunday afternoons to the cause. And, you know, it's not like I don't get paid. *sigh*)

8. Agreed to work 9am-4pm at Not the IRS on Tuesday the 18th, instead of 12-4pm. Then I realized that this created an insoluble scheduling conflict with my eye exam appointment that morning. I tried to call the eye office to reschedule, but was put on an infinite hold loop. (Possibly they were closed because of the weather and their system isn't set up to shunt anyone to voicemail until after normal office hours? If so, that's kind of annoying. I will try again tomorrow or Monday, as the case may be.)

...

Anyway, now I shall have some dessert and either read some more Crooked Kingdom or fall directly into bed.
