Board Minute, Feb. 16, 2020
Feb. 17th, 2020 10:23 amUpon careful reading of
getyourwordsout's rules, I am pretty sure my Board Minute text doesn't count for that challenge, since it's... work-related is the wrong term, but it was a task-oriented thing rather than something written just to write.
But I feel like posting it because I think I don't talk very much about what being on my congregation's Board of Trustees involves in a practical sense. Mostly it's our monthly meeting, where we discuss a lot of things, decide some policy, and portion out some other responsibilities among ourselves. Sometimes it also involves helping organize/run special events or communicating back to the congregation at large. This Board Minute falls under communication: reporting the information gathered from a special event, which the Board then used to make some policy decisions.

On January 26, FUSIT members had the opportunity to participate in a congregational conversation about fundraising in general and the Recycle Sale in particular. Thank you to everyone who came and shared your ideas!
Based on the majority viewpoint expressed at that meeting, the Board's consensus is to continue with the Recycle Sale, but not in its current form. Instead we will look for ways to improve efficiency and reduce the volunteer effort needed to run it. To that end, the Board is convening a small ad hoc committee to plan how to make those goals into a reality. [Redacted] has agreed to chair that committee.
Because these changes will reduce the revenue brought in by the Recycle Sale, the Board's further consensus is that FUSIT should look into establishing a third fundraiser, alongside the Recycle Sale and the Service Auction, that will excite the congregation to volunteer, match our vision and mission, and meet a fundraising target of approximately [redacted]. The Board invites congregants with community fundraising experience or a creative passion for event organization to serve on an ad hoc committee to identify the new fundraiser with the best potential, and deliver a feasibility study to the Board.
Anyone interested in joining either ad hoc committee, or who would like to comment on FUSIT's fundraising goals and processes, can speak to Board members [Redacted], [Redacted], and [Redacted] in the sanctuary after today's service.
Once again, thank you all for your enthusiasm, your generosity, and your creativity. Together, we can continue to share the magic of FUSIT with each other and the greater community.

The wording of that closing line, incidentally, was chosen specifically to tie in with the theme of this year's Stewardship pledge campaign. I'm not on the Stewardship Committee in a practical sense anymore -- it meets Monday evenings from 5:30-7pm, and I'm at work until 7pm -- but I'm still on the mailing list so I occasionally contribute feedback and I also get to read all the ask letters and stuff ahead of time. And I figure, synergy is a good thing, so why not play into it? *wry*
Anyway, we got some volunteers and some good feedback after the service so I think, all in all, task accomplished. :D
