evening addendum, Tuesday March 17
Mar. 17th, 2020 11:09 pmI added 325 "and then" style words to the Narnia/Naruto crossover, which resolved one big knot of tension and then brought a second big knot of tension back into the foreground. I decided not to tackle that knot as well, because I am still tired and there's a limit to how much emotional tension I want to wade through in a given day.
Rough draft wordcount is now 6,250, for the record.
...
This was originally supposed to be a ~500 word short prompt response, you know? But the lighthearted version didn't work, so I came up with a different approach and that dumped me into a huge mess of worldbuilding and character arcs and so on. I think to some degree it was unavoidable, in that it's hard to write a super-condensed story about somebody gaining purpose, but still.
Ultimately I think I am glad I went with the longer and harder approach -- I am proud of what I've written so far and I think the story will kick ass when I'm done -- but it's sure been a very different journey from the one I thought I was setting out on.
(The basis is still a ridiculous crossover connection and a terrible joke that probably only I will find amusing, but that's now buried under a lot of serious stuff.)
...
And now back to bed!
