midday update, Saturday March 21
Mar. 21st, 2020 01:43 pmThings and stuff:
1. Since my last post, Gov. Cuomo has issued an executive order even more serious than the previous "only 25% of staff allowed on-site" rules. Now all non-essential businesses are supposed to close entirely.
So far as I can tell, Not the IRS is considered essential (not even death stops taxes, though it can delay them a bit *wry*), but we've trimmed office hours on both ends of the day and are switching to drop-off and online service only starting tomorrow. Therefore, I am spending part of this afternoon doing some online training to make sure I am certified in our various online options/services (though not purely virtual returns; that's a separate thing for which you need a higher rating than I currently have and also you have to apply to join the program) and in drop-off procedures.
I legit have no idea what this will mean for the rental company. Obviously our maintenance department will remain open! But my office... who can say? We've removed our involvement with packages, but I feel like somebody needs to be there for at least part of the day to handle our own mail and also receive and hand out keys, plus do some data entry stuff that I'm not sure can be done remotely on our current software setup. I suspect what will happen is that Mom Boss and Aunt Boss will switch to working from home, and Miss California and I will be alone in the office for shortened hours each day, assuming we either count as essential or Lawyer Man can make a good argument to get us an exemption. We'll see.
2. I forgot to soak the beans overnight, but I have started them this afternoon and they should be ready to dump into the crock-pot tonight to cook overnight.
3. I renewed my Celexa prescription, which should be ready to pick up tomorrow before or after my shift at Not the IRS.
4. FUSIT's Board of Trustees are trying to work out a time when we can have a weekly Zoom catch-up -- not our monthly business meetings, but a way to stay in touch as the world gets more chaotic. At the moment it looks like Wednesday evenings are winning, but it's still up in the air.
5. I need to drop by Not the IRS this afternoon so our office manager can run me through how our new policies will work in practice. This is okay, since I also want to do a quick grocery run for items that are too heavy for me to be enthusiastic about carrying them a mile home from the Commons tomorrow evening. (The #13 bus doesn't run on Sundays, sadly, so I am stuck with that walk.)
And now I will get back to the online training. *sigh*
