daily update, Monday March 23
Mar. 23rd, 2020 08:58 pmSo. Uh. Things. Have happened?
1. Lawyer Man has still not issued any decisions about staffing at the rental office, though Mom Boss and Aunt Boss are both preparing to work from home as much as possible. Presumably we will know more later this week, and Mom Boss will text me if the word comes down tomorrow or Wednesday, failing which I will show up at 9am on Thursday as usual.
2. Mom texted me this morning to say she and Dad intended to drive up and leave me the Camry (our family spare car that I have partial custody of), which is something she's been making noises about for a few days now. I mean, worrying about me relying on public transportation is totally reasonable! But she and Dad are both over 70 and Mom has some pre-existing conditions, and I'm frankly more worried about them traveling under these circumstances.
3. And then this afternoon Mom texted me to say the trip is off because she's possibly in a-fib and has an emergency video appointment with her cardiologist tomorrow morning, FUCKING YIKES. (Like I said, pre-existing conditions!)
...
...
...
I'm going to light a candle for her tonight. Possibly several candles.
If you have any good thoughts to spare, please send them her way.
4. Over the past couple days, I read Swordheart and Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher. I enjoyed them a lot! I could have done with less sexual yearning, but then again, I could do with less sexual yearning in most stories I read, so I don't think it's fair to hold that against the books. And it's an idiosyncratic personal preference anyway, so. *wry*
5. Finished chapter 2 of Expelling the Poor. (Dense nonfiction about subjects that make me want to smack dead people upside the head with a rotting mackerel is always going to be a slower read than entertaining fiction, you know? Which doesn't mean I don't enjoy them both! I just consume them at different rates.)
6. Continued crossposting Three Sentence Ficathon fills to AO3.
...
I should probably either crosspost a few more ficlets or answer my backlog of comments and then hit the sack.
...
You may have noticed that I haven't been writing anything new for the past few days, and have no intention of writing anything tonight either. I think I've just been too generally unsettled for that, which is why I dove headfirst into Ursula Vernon's novels instead. Hopefully this mood will pass soon.

Date: 2020-03-24 01:55 am (UTC)Also, I *think* your rental office may qualify as an exemption. It may fall under one of these categories as noted by Gothamist: building code enforcement, emergency management and response, general maintenance whether employed by the entity directly or a vendor. I guess it depends on the type of work your rental office performs?
I hope the management company for my building has at least someone in the office. My dad usually drops the rent check off in person but since the offices are closed, they've said payments should be mailed or paid online (he's doing the former as his English isn't great and he's totally not tech savvy).

Date: 2020-03-24 05:05 pm (UTC)Mom's feeling much better today and they're going to ship her some EKG equipment so she can monitor herself since they don't want her coming in to urgent care. I am still worried, but it seems like this may have been a blip caused by heightened anxiety, so... good thoughts may actually be a relevant treatment here. *hands*
