well that was unexpected

I arrived at work this morning to the fascinating discovery that I had no computer.
Apparently it bluescreened yesterday, so Miss California and Aunt Boss had it delivered to the local IT-slash-computer-repair company that manages our in-house ethernet networks. So I spent the morning unable to do anything besides answer the phone and go label packages in building lobbies, because all my other tasks require me to, you know, have a computer. Mostly I sat and read stuff on my cell phone.
In the event, I was able to go pick up the repaired machine shortly before 2pm. (It's nice having a car!) Then I spent the remainder of the afternoon playing catch-up.
I'm still unsure what caused the problem -- Miss California suspected some recent updates not playing nicely with everything else -- but apparently wiping and reinstalling the operating system and then updating all HP drivers fixed whatever it was.

Date: 2020-05-22 03:15 am (UTC)I'm currently dealing with the same proposed solution to an issue on my NAS that I use for backup. Seriously, like I just happen to have a spare NAS laying around to move several terabytes of data. Morons! I initially thought the two main folders were borked, but it looks like it's just two minor subfolders. Annoying, but I can work around it and, better yet, the data isn't damaged. Still can't get a fix out of support. They tell me they're escalating my issue and then keep closing the ticket.
Happy that you have a functioning PC again.
