What I planned to do today: many and various things.

What I actually did today: worked 12-5pm at the rental company office because Miss California was out sick and Aunt Boss texted me to ask if I could cover part of her shift.

I mean, I also picked some blackberries -- or black raspberries? *quickly googles* apparently black raspberries, who knew! -- when I got home, and had a nice conversation with one of the guys at the local sandwich place where I buy BLTs (by which I mean we talked about apartments and NYSEG and local college schedules, not that we flirted), and put away a bit more of the laundry I washed and dried on Sunday, but that was pretty much it.

I think I might go to bed soon, actually, because I'd previously agreed to work 10am-3pm tomorrow as a supplement to allow Miss California to take more staged apartment photos and videos, and if she's still out sick that will become even more relevant.

...

Okay, also! Let me tell you about a thing I did yesterday at work.

I believe I've mentioned that NYSEG has decided not to read any meters than count as "indoors" even if they're in dedicated meter rooms to which NYSEG already has keys and which can be accessed without any human contact, right? And so I've been doing a NYSEG meter reader's job as well as all my normal work?

Well, on Monday afternoon I spent a good twenty minutes exploring various basement entrances to one of our older properties in an attempt to find a specific electric meter. One of the exterior-access basement stairwells had no functioning lightbulbs, which was fun. Also my master keys didn't work in any of the locks at the base of that stairwell. Extra fun!

The second exterior-access basement stairwell had deeply bendy wooden steps (the opposite of reassuring) and the two doors at the bottom had nothing to indicate which contained the electric meters. In the event, the meters were in the second room I tried (after exploring the very creepy first room, including some unlit alcoves) and I had to cross a massive puddle on a very precarious series of wood chunks laid out as stepping stones to reach the meters... which were then labeled as "2nd floor east" and "2nd floor west" rather than by apartment number, because of course they were. I couldn't remember which apartment was on which side of the building, so I just snapped photos of each and sorted it out once I got back to the office.

I am no longer surprised by any reports we get of mice and rats in that building. In fact, I am surprised we don't get MORE reports. Because YUCK.

I am also quite sure we're inadvertently breeding cellar mosquitoes, which is just lovely.

And now, yeah, I probably will head off to bed.
