The first year I grew jalapenos, they came out so mild they might as well have been bell peppers.

The second time I grew jalapenos, they were a little spicy, but still pretty mild.

This year, I think they are actually spicy.

How do I know this, you ask?

Not because I ate any. Not yet.

But tonight I chopped a bunch of them up for later use, without wearing gloves -- I'd never needed gloves with the previous rounds! -- and now I have a freaking capsaicin burn all over my left fingers and a smidge on my right thumb.

Bleep my life.

(Yes, I wiped my hand down with rubbing alcohol, and then doused it with olive oil and washed that off with dish detergent. That helped a little... but the burn is still throbbingly intense.)

Ack! That sounds like they got spicy all right. Hope the burn subsides soon.

Do you grow aloe at home? It's my go-to for all skin mishaps. :-)

And here I thought aloe was unkillable. How do you manage that? :D
It wants light but does not like scorching sunlight, and dislikes being watered more frequently than once a week; it can do even with much less. That's about the extent of my knowledge of tending it; it lives its own life.

It was a bit of a facetious question from me because we're that way with herbs, and our pepperomia died...
And my amaryllis grows beautifully but somehow does not bloom.
But my aloes thrive and do not die even when I try and pull them out! I had some out of the pot for at least a year and they stayed green the whole time and then I put them in a pot and they took root and everything. I now keep a bunch just in a jar for skin-treating purposes. It's a bit insane.

P.S. Hippeastrum.
And our Mother-in-law's tongue is also doing well.
It would appear that where you have a black thumb for succulents, we have a green thumb for them. It's a bit annoying because they're not really my favourite plants, but then I like growing things so I'm not going to argue with that and I'll grow what I can!

I had one of those for several years (as I recall, it eventually died after a move) and it invariably bloomed when I wasn't there to see it.
