Behold! After months upon months of me being lazy and/or avoidant, chapter 11 of "Secrets" is finally up! This was/is my first serious attempt at writing a novel; by this point, it's almost five years old and roughly 105,000 words long, and I still have three chapters and an epilogue left to go. *sigh* Well, they say you learn by doing, and I will be damned rather than let this story stay unfinished forever. It's still dear to my heart, though I keep getting distracted by new and shiny things.
Anyway. "Secrets," which I summarize as follows: CoS according to Ginny. Nobody noticed anything wrong for an entire year. How did she slip so far from her family and friends? Angst and betrayal, but also mysteries, jokes, an enchanted suit of armor, and a guaranteed happy ending. WIP
And now you get Chapter 11: A Place to Stand, in which life doesn't stop and people don't leave Ginny alone just because she wants to escape. In an effort to fight back against Tom, she investigates Percy and possession, with varying degrees of success.
I have a table of contents page, for those who want summaries of previous chapters. The whole story is up on Fanfiction.net and on FictionAlley, though the FA version is older and missing some content and text formatting edits. (I really should get around to fixing that one of these days...)

Excellent chapter
Date: 2007-03-24 03:17 am (UTC)It's interesting to see the world through Ginny's eyes. Her fights with the others while she wraps herself further into Tom's world are quite interesting to see. I know it's an evil thing to ask since you're not done with this, but have you considered doing a sequel to show how she patches up the friendships and makes herself more at home at Hogwarts?
The only criticism I might pose is that she seems to be acting a little old for 11. However, I don't know many 11-year-old kids, so it could be that she's dead-on.
Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

Re: Excellent chapter
Date: 2007-03-24 05:07 pm (UTC)There will be some patching-up in the denoument section and the epilogue. But at this point, I've mostly drifted out of the HP fandom -- it's not where any of my new story ideas occur these days -- so it would be difficult to do a proper sequel. :-(
I have, however, written two semi-fluffy Harry/Ginny semi-romances -- "Five Years Is an Awful Lot of Later" and "First You Have to Get There" -- which assume "Secrets" as their background. They're set in an alternate Year 5 in which Umbridge, for whatever reason, is not a factor. (That's because I started them before OotP was published.) If you're curious about how my version of Ginny put her life back together, those will give you a rough outline. :-)
I know Ginny seems a little old at times. Oh, trust me, I know. *beats head against table* I keep trying to compensate for that, but my success is limited, and somewhere around chapter 6 I resigned myself to it as a quirk of the story.
