Your church is so big you can have a >99% vote? :)
We had some big votes at our parish meeting today. It's a long complicated story but IMO we probably (I hope) did the right thing, though one guy said he was quitting because of the vote and at least two other people are probably beyond pissed off. That's the chance you take, I guess, with the democratic process.
A quorum for a congregational meeting is 30 people. We had at least 100-150 people there yesterday.
Our total membership is... 200-500 people, depending. I think it's about 500 on the books, but a lot of those people don't ever participate, and/or left the congregation during the mess with Rev. Sears several years ago. (And to them I say 'good riddance.')
Wow, big crowd. Our congregation is around 100, a quorum is something like 25, and we had 51 voting, including a 16-year-old who joined yesterday (he's one of my RE students) and whose mom is the incoming president. Well then 99% of 150 is 148 :D You have great consensus in your congregation. Ours voted on several measures and the votes were 39 yes, 11 no, 1 abstain; 24 yes, 27 no; and unanimous yes because once we voted on the others, the third issue became a moot point. But now we've sort of lost our outgoing president (resigning with only 3 weeks left in his term!) and his wife, the finance chairperson (just reelected yesterday), who are licking their wounds because they were on the losing end of the 39-11 vote :(
