On a completely different note, I was unable to watch movies last night. See, at the moment I don't have a functional DVD player (...I really need to get off my butt and get a new computer...) and most video rental places are getting rid of their VHS tapes, so I intended to rent the tape from the library.

(Um. Borrow the tape. Not rent it; libraries don't charge rental fees. Funny how certain verbs just get so attached to certain objects that I use them without actually thinking...)

Anyway, it turns out that while copies of The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy exist within the Finger Lakes library system, they don't actually exist here in Tompkins County Public Library. So I had to order them through interlibrary loan, which means god only knows when they'll arrive. And by then, my landlords will probably be back from their vacation and I'll get nervous about the volume setting on my little cut-rate old-school TV, and maybe I won't have a free evening, and...

*sigh*

I can let the big things in life roll without too much trouble. It's the petty complications that get to me.

Wait, we have libraries in the Fingerlakes? Surely literacy is not allowed here. XD

Well, you know, it's Ithaca. Home of Cornell University and all that. If we didn't have a library they'd mock us to death. ;-)

*snicker* A few of the professors from my college (good old Hobart William Smith), went to Cornell. All we get are stories of the people who, one way or another, jump off cliffs and die. So even though I've been to Ithaca and seen Cornell, my image of it is always kind of 'one building, BIG CLIFF OF DEATH'.

That one building can be the library.

The thing is, Cornell doesn't have an abnormally high rate of suicide attempts. It's just that the success rate tends to be a little more dramatic than in other places, because jumping off a bridge into a rocky gorge several hundred feet down is a pretty foolproof method of making yourself very, very dead.

(And probably very, very sorry and in pain for a few minutes between impact and death, but let's not go there...)

The one building can be Uris library, because it has McGraw Tower and the chimes. I like the chimes. :-) Also, they light the tower exterior sort of neon orange at night, which amuses me.
