Thanksgiving Eve :-)

edenfallingIt took me longer to load the car and eat a quick lunch than I'd expected -- and then I had issues with the gas cap -- so I didn't get out of Ithaca until 2:00pm. After that, I made pretty good time; I reached my parents' house at 6:30pm, four and a half hours later.
On a good day, taking NY-96B and NY-96 down to Owego, US-17 east to Interstate 81, I-81 south to Scranton, I-380 south to I-80, and then I-80 east over the Delaware Water Gap into New Jersey and I-287, which I then take south to Morristown, after which it's local roads... anyway, on a good day, with no delays, nice weather, and some judicious speeding, Ithaca to Madison is a three and a half hour drive. (If you don't speed, it takes four hours.)
Today I hopped off I-380 on I-84, and then crossed the Delaware on US-206, in Milford. Then I took 206 down to NJ-15, and that down to I-80, after which it was same old, same old. The idea was to avoid the Water Gap, because that is a massive bottleneck at the best of times (a heavily traveled four lane highway narrows down to two lanes). And it worked.
Also, traffic on 17 and 81 was lighter than I'd feared, and 84, as always, was pretty deserted. My worst delays were actually on 96, heading into Owego. Admittedly, I was speeding a lot when the traffic permitted, in an effort to compensate for the longer route and the lower speed limit on 206 and 15, but still. As Thanksgiving commutes go, this was mild.
So yay!
Ardis arrived safely last night, and though Vicky's flight was delayed over two hours, she arrived safely this evening.
We will probably be eating Thanksgiving dinner later than we often do, since my mom is recovering from carpal tunnel repair surgery. She will be directing my dad around the kitchen rather than cooking most things herself, so meal preparation can't start until he's ready... and my dad is not a morning person. :-)
