Am off to see Prisoner of Azkaban with my friend Ryan, whom I haven't seen in a year. (Wah! I miss my NJ friends while I'm in NY.)

Most people I've talked to say it's good, but Vicky, who wants to be a film director, is annoyed at various stylistic choices Cuaron made. *shrug* I figure I'm going in without any particular expectations, so I probably won't be disappointed and may well be pleasantly surprised. I have found this is the most effective way for me to approach movies.

In other news, I finished The Possessed a week ago, and have moved on through some turn-off-my-brain books, Gordon R. Dickson's The Last Master (which is very typical Dickson) and Octavia Butler's Wild Seed (which I liked enough to buy Mind Of My Mind, to which Wild Seed is a prequel). Am now reading Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter, which reminds me oddly of Patricia McKillip's books.

I like summer. I finally have time to work through my backlog of books!

Man, Alfonso Cuaron has a thing for birds! It makes for pretty, pretty transitions, though.

Hagrid's pumpkins are scary-ugly.

The Hogwarts grounds are cool -- fountains, that rickety bridge-walk thing, the standing stones -- and they're not flat! Weird. My mental image (despite it being Scotland, and probably the Highlands) was quite flat. I think it's the lake. I tend to think flat when I think lakes; it must be the Minnesota experience. I'm used to thinking about glacier-gouged lakes and inland-sea remnants, not pockets of water trapped between big mountain/hills.

I didn't like the werewolf. Too much were, not enough wolf. *sigh* Ryan thought it was cool, though.

Hermione is my hero.

More rational reviewing later. Must get ready for class.
