Observe the fruits of my vacation: a Naruto fic. I can't figure out what about this particular manga series led to ideas when most things I read leave me with no impulses to fiddle around in other people's worlds. But a story idea did indeed pop up, and I'm writing it as fast as I can. It will, I think, have 7 chapters all told, each about 3,500-4,000 words, so under 30,000 total. I think that's fairly doable.
Note, 3 June 2005 -- at 11 chapters and 45,000 words, give or take, I look back at my estimates and laugh myself sick. And I'm not even finished yet!
Further Note, 15 October 2005 -- 17 chapters, approximately 70,000 words, and an epilogue still to write. Plus a sequel in the works. Quick easy story, my left foot. It's been pretty fun all the way, though, and I can now proudly say that I've written a novel. Not bad for a small plot bunny that nudged shyly at my foot and asked if I might like to write a story.
Chapter 2 is already finished and I'm working on chapter 3. Here is chapter 1.
( The Way of the Apartment Manager, 1 )
In other news, I'm back in Ithaca, where it's currently cold, windy, and snowing. *sigh* However, my friend Andrew is dropping by to visit tomorrow en route to either Philly or Pittsburgh. Somewhere in Pennsylvania, anyway. So that's good.
Editing "Secrets" turned out to take a little more thought than I'd planned -- it needs more subtle tweaks than usual, which is really entirely my fault for not editing it myself before sending it to beta. *sigh* The work will always have to be done sometime, and putting it off then only means I have to do it now. Still, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to send it to FA tomorrow.
And that's about it.
