Lo and behold, I have recovered enough to think clearly again. This is a good sign. It's also a good sign that my nose is now completely stuffed instead of running -- that usually signals the approaching end of a cold, for me -- but unfortunately, that means I can't sleep more than a few hours at a time or my sinuses fill to bursting and I get excruciating headaches. So here I am, sitting upright, and letting my nasal cavity drain. Slowly. Very slowly.

And that's more than you ever needed or wanted to know about my health, so, on with the story! Chapter 11, in which Yukiko plots a grand renovation project, we meet Naga's mother, Asuma makes an uncredited cameo, and the third test starts with an uneven matchup.

ExpandThe Way of the Apartment Manager, 11 )

The next chapter or two will contain other fights in the third test. Question: how much detail are you interested in seeing when Yukiko isn't down in the arena? I will definitely be writing Naga and Iruka's fights, but I can gloss over the other people, sort of like Ten-Ten and Temari's fight is glossed over in the manga.

Last night, I dreamed that I found an abandoned cat, which I took home until such time as I could find a local animal shelter. I figured that I could fight my allergy to cat dander with Benadryl for a few days in the service of a good cause.

She was a lovely cat, sort of creamy off-white with gray tabby markings along her spine (extending a few inches outward on either side) and on the top of her head. Her tail was gray-ish. She had apparently been somebody's pet before, since she wasn't shy of people and was extraordinarily inquisitive, to the point of jumping all over my bookcase and molesting my houseplants. She had a certain aversion to being picked up, and would squirm out of my hands and give me an infinitely superior look of suffering condescension when I finally managed to pick her up. She liked being petted, though.

I named her Nadya, nicknamed Nell.

It was such a realistic dream that when I woke up this morning, I was convinced for nearly a minute that my nose was clogged because of my cat allergy, not because I have a cold.

...

Clearly, I miss my dog.
