I do not understand my head, okay?
By which I mean that while I still fully intend to write my actual remix -- it has eaten my subconscious; I have no choice! -- I have also, just this evening, written over a thousand words remixing a completely different story, and am almost at the end point of that. Though I think the first section is kind of weak and needs to be extended with more dialogue. Maybe.
ETA, 2:30am - Have indeed gone back and completely rewritten the first section so it A) has dialogue and thus matches the second and third sections better, and B) includes mention of some other characters so as to provide the illusion of a continuous throughline plot thread. There isn't a plot, really, but the least I can do is attempt to disguise that. *wry* Will finish the third scene tomorrow.
...
Like I said, I do not understand my head.

In other news, I worked a bit more on "Friends and Neighbors," which is the "Apartment Manager" sidestory I promised
aishuu ages ago. I took a wrong turn -- got way too sanctimonious for a scene -- but I believe I have figured out how to both bring back something from the start of the story and finally wind it down to, you know, an actual conclusion.
It's going to be over 5,000 words by the end, which is ridiculous since I only meant to be writing a quick little ficlet, but whatever. The story does what the story wants. Within reason.
It'll probably still take me a few months to actually write the ending, though, because I procrastinate like a procrastinating thing. :-(
