computer woes
Jun. 14th, 2012 06:05 pmI went online when I got home from work last night, but about ten minutes after that my computer disconnected from my upstairs neighbors' wireless and spent the next half hour insisting that it couldn't connect to anything even though it could tell that networks were around. Also, the light on my USB wireless adapter thingy kept going out after about a minute. I suspect this is a problem with the USB rather than my computer, particularly because the USB is already a little wonky -- when it was fresh from the package, I only had to plug it in once and that was that; it worked continuously. But after a while it went temperamental and had to be plugged in anew each time I wanted to connect to a network.
I will test it again tonight, and if it hasn't recovered, I will stop by RadioShack and Best Buy tomorrow and see if I can find some kind of replacement, because being without internet except via phone or public library is extremely frustrating!
ETA, 9:00pm: It turned out to be the router. My upstairs neighbors (I trade the use of my driveway for internet access) reconfigured their router last night and accidentally lost my computer from its network list. I talked to them as a final step before buying a new adapter, and Upstairs Neighbor R was able to add me back to the access list. Victory!
