I can has AIR CONDITIONING!! Victory is mine!!! Ahahahaha!!!!
Of course it's not as vital tonight as it will doubtless be next week, but still: air conditioning! Mom arrived around 1pm (two hours later than we'd planned, because of badly signed road work on I-80 west in Pennsylvania), we picked up the AC from Sears and grabbed drive-through from McDonalds, came back to my place, ate, and then unpacked and installed the machine. We also unloaded and stashed a whole bunch of random junk she and my Dad plan to donate to my church's rummage sale this summer, so her trip served more than one purpose.
I will have to make some adjustments to the AC tomorrow -- largely cutting and taping some sealant foam strips around the edges, and also fastening the side panels to the window frame with different brackets bought from Agway (because my window is wider than the AC is ideally designed to fit in, and also old and not quite square, so the brackets that came with the package aren't quite cutting it), but the basic point remains that it's in my window and it's working. Everything else is just details.
Yay!!!!!
(ETA: Thursday afternoon I ended up unscrewing everything and fiddling with the window until I could wedge some of the compressed cardboard packing material between the AC and the inner portion of my window sill -- to increase the tilt, for drainage purposes -- and it turned out that when I fastened everything back together again, the brackets suddenly fit perfectly! Which is corroborating evidence that I needed to increase the tilt, so it's good that I bothered to do that. *beams*)
