1. Smoke shop update: a couple weeks back MS hurt her foot or ankle or knee or something (I have the story third-hand, it was somewhat garbled) and the injury was complicated by her arthritis (she is younger than my little sister, yet she has nasty arthritis in her feet; it sucks) and so she's been unable to work since then. Fortunately winter makes business slow and nobody has been sick (*hastily knocks on wood*) so we've survived, but it's not a good situation.

However! As of this week we have rehired PB part-time, since he's trying to save money to get a new apartment and a real job once his current lease runs out in five months. We have also rehired a guy who used to work at, I think, one of our sister stores down in Elmira several years ago who is now living in Ithaca and needed a job. He'll need some retraining, of course, but retraining is easier than training from scratch.

So we are suddenly properly staffed again. It's a strange feeling. I think I like it. :-)

2. My birthday is on Sunday. I will be 31 years old. Where does the time go?

Anyway, my parents were going to come up this weekend but we have postponed that on account of predicted snow. Ithaca shouldn't be hit too badly, since we are too far inland to really feel any effects of nor'easters unless they're absolute monster storms, but the roads up from New Jersey may be awful and even 4-6 inches of snow is still significant, so. They will be visiting next Wednesday and Thursday instead -- we will of course do the dinner on Wednesday, because eating out on Valentine's Day is just asking for trouble.

(The only thing I dislike about my birthday is the way it occasionally falls such that the closest convenient weekend is Valentine's Day, which, ugh. That is such a stupid holiday. Who invented it anyway?)

My birthday present to myself is a seat at a Mardi Gras brunch that some people from church are throwing on Sunday. I bought it at the service auction this fall and have been excused from both RE teaching and work that day, so yeah. I think this will be fun. :-)

3. I have been very slowly trying to write stuff, but it's going at about the rate of 100 words per day, which is hardly worth mentioning. The one exception is the... 500-ish? words of Aravis/Cor I wrote two nights ago at work which was meant to be a Cotton Candy Bingo prompt response for back rub (for [personal profile] rthstewart's suggestion) that took a left turn on me and suddenly wanted to be mildly kinky porn. *hands* So that needs to be A) typed up and B) heavily reworked before it can be C) finished, and... I don't even know, but world-building crept around the edges, as it always does, and so it's mildly kinky sex surrounded by talk of politics and the emergence of Telmar as a political entity, because Lewis never said when the Telmarines fell into the Narnian world (if he did, it's in the supplemental timeline and can therefore be ignored if I want), and why not during the Golden Age when a whole bunch of other metaphysical shakeups were going down and various doors might have unexpectedly opened? Give that a generation for them to settle and have kids, and boom, suddenly a new country trying to set up treaties and stuff.

...

I hate writing. I hate it so much.

(No I don't.)
