I have an Apartment Manager AU sidestory by the working title of "Friends and Neighbors" (aka the one with the fallout from Naruto and Shinnin befriending Sakura) that I have been working on for about three years now -- I kept making false turns and stalling out until I pinpointed the sentence where I turned down a dead end, figured out the correct path I should have taken, and restarted from that point. (Sometimes this involved yanking out several hundred words after the wrong turn. Sometimes only one or two sentences.)
I found the problem with my last stall-out tonight. And it is even stupider than before. The reason I couldn't figure out what should happen next in the scene in question is because the scene in question is finished. It needed a line break and a cut to the next scene, not a continuation.
*headdesk*
I wasted so much time beating my head against that one. So. Much. Time.
...
One final scene to go, I think -- it's basically wrap-up and some echoing of the opening scene -- and I will finally be done. (6,600 words, incidentally.)
