I looked at the cumulative wordcount for chapter 8, looked at the outline and suggestions I still have to get through, and made an executive choice to break the narrative again. This iteration of "Trollstuck" will now have NINE chapters.

(Yeah, yeah, I know. I run long. What else is new?)

So this technically finishes chapter 8, which was my do-by-September goal... but I'm not done with this story yet, which was the goal-in-spirit, so I think I will press onward until I'm done with chapter 9. Then I will switch to "Lemonade" and concentrate solely on that story until I defeat it once and for all.

I dunno if I'll write much while I'm on vacation. I will email myself a bunch of files, of course, but cabin vacations are always working vacations -- a house in the north woods doesn't maintain itself, you see -- so I may be too busy to bother.

Chapter 8: Equius is now up on AO3! I think it's somewhere around 5,500 words, discounting the coding. (Yeah, I know, it's misleading to give him the chapter title, but he IS the official POV character, so what else could I do? *grin*)

Chapter 9 will now be the one titled "Shatterpoint," because it won't have an official POV character (not even as a joke). I have too many heads to jump in and out of, you see, both because there are a lot of events and conversations happening in different places among different subsets of characters, and because I can't be in certain POVs for certain events or else I'd break my "no real dialogue" rule before my chosen moment.

Now I am going to email a bunch of files to myself and maybe have some ice cream before drugging myself with Benadryl and going to be absurdly early. (Well. Early for me, anyway.) I have packed everything I can pack before the morning, I have moved the car further in from the street so Upstairs Neighbors R & A can use the driveway while I'm gone, I have moved my peppers to the front porch and written a note to Downstairs Neighbor S asking her to look after them, I have stopped my mail, I have checked in and printed my boarding passes, and basically I am ready.

Minnesota, here I come!

These will be the last pictures of my peppers for eight days, since I am going away on vacation. I have moved them to the front porch of the house (as you can see from the fourth photo) and left a note for Downstairs Neighbor S asking her to keep an eye on them since they are now under a roof and won't get any delicious rainwater to drink. They got a good dousing this afternoon and evening prior to the move, though, so hopefully that won't be much of an issue.

I would have liked to bring a pepper with me to Minnesota as a gift for my parents, but alas, though the bell peppers have grown quite large, they are still far too firm to be picked, even if I wanted to pick them while they're still green and thus technically unripe. (Which I don't, really. I like how bell peppers get mellow when they turn red.)

I would like to clarify that none of the junk in the fourth picture is mine, though that is "my" side of the porch. I am not quite sure where it all came from, but Downstairs Neighbor S says it belongs to my new Upstairs Diagonal Neighbors (the ones who replaced the couple who replaced K & N; there's been fairly rapid turnover this past year) and she's trying to get them to move most of it up to their balcony so she can put some patio furniture out instead. My reaction is that as long as there's room for the house's collective recycling bins (which I keep on my side), I can get to my mailbox, and crap isn't actively pushing in through my front room window, I don't much care... but patio furniture will look a lot more intentional than two bikes, several stacks of who knows what, a folding chair, and a random skateboard.

And now to bed!
