I crashed around 9pm on Tuesday night and slept through until 10am Wednesday morning. Then I did a lot of nothing until we went out for dinner -- "nothing," in this case, being defined as "did the two crossword puzzles from Tuesday's Star Tribune, read the latest issue of Skeptical Inquirer, caught up on some online stuff, and read the first quarter of Wolf Hall on my mother's Kindle."

We ate at Boulders, which is a nice restaurant on the outskirts of Walker, a town maybe half an hour's drive south of Cass Lake. I had a very nice pork chop in bourbon sauce with fettuccine Alfredo on the side, Aunt Cara had paella, Mom had the lamb shank special, and Dad had the linguine with meatballs special. Dad and I each had the soup of the day -- a red pepper cream with wild rice, which was very rich and tasty -- while Mom and Aunt Cara each had the house salad. And we ended up getting two bottles of wine to split: a white for the appetizers and a red for the main course. It worked out nicely, and we went home with a LOT of leftovers. :-)

Today I got up at 9:30am (slowly, slowly, I am dragging myself toward a proper island schedule!) which was just in time for a thunderstorm to hit. This was actually fairly welcome, since it precipitously dropped the temperature and it's been quite hot lately, easily up in the 80s the past few days. Now the weather has cleared, but we are still staying inside while the forest drips. I did the two crosswords from Wednesday's Star Tribune (with some help from my family) and am now doing some more internet housekeeping while everyone else works on a 750-piece jigsaw puzzle. I may go pitch in soonish. Then again, I may just go read more of Wolf Hall, which is very engrossing.

Tonight the dinner plan is broiled walleye and zucchini, other details as yet undecided.

ETA: I did go pitch in with the puzzle, which we completed after a brief interlude to go read on the dock before another thunderstorm hit. Collectively we got 2.8 inches of rain today. O_o

Here is a picture of the puzzle by way of proof:
