Next post: the fill that completely and utterly got away from me.
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
This started as a fill for the Three Sentence Ficathon, but it quickly got out of hand, even for me -- to the degree that my series of girl!Arthur/Eames fills did in 2011, or the Discworld/Enchanted Forest crossover did this spring.

I don't care. I like it anyway. And the world can always use more Lucy and Mr. Tumnus being best friends. :-)

So.

12. [livejournal.com profile] betonyb, Any, any, daemon AU

Lucy and Mr. Tumnus discuss history and hypotheticals over tea, in the second summer after the end of the Witch's reign. Daemon AU. (1,275 words)

[ETA: The AO3 crosspost is now up!]

Without Any External or Physical Form )

So yeah, that happened, complete with awkward attempts at mimicking Lewis's narrative asides. And now that my brain is no longer being devoured by particularly insistent plot weasels, I would like to get back to my Yuletide fic, please, without any further distractions. *makes puppydog eyes at the universe*

Oh thank fuck, somebody won Mega Millions -- one ticket in California and another in Georgia. That will remove a significant source of stress at work for the immediate future.

Of course, we still have all the holiday shopping stress, not to mention the "training two new employees at once" stress, but eh, I can cope with those. Particularly since both new hires are MUCH more competent right off the bat than Puppydog was... though since they both have prior retail experience and he had never had an actual job before, it's not an entirely fair comparison.

Oh yeah, speaking of Puppydog! We are pretty sure he will be back in January, so yeah, things are going well on that front, or at least as well as can be expected after serious health issues.

Lemme-Tell-Ya, on the other hand. Um. cut for an illusion of privacy )

...

Can it be 2014 already, please?

I love ff.net. It is the gift that never stops giving... particularly in Naruto. I mean, I get occasional weird comments on practically everything, but the proportion of character partisans, canon police, people who did not actually read the story, and other types of oddity is noticeably higher in that fandom compared to my others. For example, one "review" of What Isn't Broken (Can Still Be Fixed):

cut for length )

Um. Okay then. Obviously you have FEELINGS about Sasuke. How nice for you. Please do not splash them all over me, as I think they have curdled and gone rancid.

In any case, I replied as follows:

What I take from your extended "review" is that my interpretation of the characters and the events in the manga did not mesh with yours. Here is a piece of advice: If you want a story about Sasuke that fits your exacting personal standards, it would be much more effective to write your own, or perhaps to submit a detailed prompt to a writing meme, than to send angry screeds to people who have somehow failed to read your mind when writing stories that did not have you as their intended audience. I honestly have no idea what you hoped to accomplish with this rant except to make yourself feel righteous and me feel sad and/or ashamed, which, frankly? You failed at. I wrote the story I wanted to write, which is true to my reading of the manga and characters, and I do not care that it failed to please you.

Have a nice life.

Because sometimes there is really nothing else you can say.

What I have already done today:

1. Buy wrist braces (because of carpal tunnel symptoms, oh joy)
2. Return a library book
3. Buy Xmas gift for Mom
4. Buy Xmas gifts for Vicky, Dad, and Susan
5. Buy holiday cards
6. Write, stamp, and seal half of holiday cards
7. Pass minimum wordcount on Yuletide fic
8. Start yet another area of research for Yuletide fic

What I still need to do:

1. Verify address for one card recipient
2. Finish remaining cards
3. Find boxes for Xmas gifts
4. Possibly wrap Xmas gifts (though maybe not until Friday)
5. Cook a lot of stuff
6. Make bed
7. Put away old laundry so I can wash more laundry tomorrow
8. Write another few hundred words on Yuletide fic

...

I think I will go start cooking now. At least when I finish that I'll have something delicious to eat for dinner. I cannot eat wrapping paper or stamps.
