wherein Liz defeats NFE
Aug. 24th, 2015 12:30 amI gave up on my NFE fic this afternoon and wrote a completely different story instead. In retrospect, I am not surprised at my complete and utter failure to make my first idea (or my second idea, or the blending of the two) work in any way, shape, or form. I will explain why in two weeks, after authors are revealed, but for now I'll just say there are reasons I treat a certain area of human life the way I do in fiction, and I should have known that attempting to approach that area from certain other perspectives would end in tears.
But hey, I did finish and post a fic! It's horribly rough, but the bones of the thing are sound and I have a week to bash it into better shape. I will count that as a victory.
(And I think I managed to be anonymous! I mean, I always think my writing is pretty obviously me -- I can spot my own vocal tics at a thousand paces -- but I was able to keep the obviously identifying details of my world-building out of the story, which is something I was very worried about for a long time.)
