Didn't write anything for "Guardian" today, though I did draw a tiny diagram of the trade caravan. :/

Will try to get more sleep tonight in hope of being a bit more together on Thursday.

In other news, I finally came up with the right approach to an original short story I'm writing for my sister as an extremely belated birthday present. (Like, it is almost her birthday again; that's how belated I am.) I can tell it's the right approach because as soon as I decided upon it, the opening line came to me as a sudden and unexpected gift. :)

"I'm not going to tell you the story of how I met Icky, because it's long and embarrassing and mostly irrelevant. What I AM going to tell you is how we helped the Golden Rider fight the evil cleaning lady of the Montana badlands and unkidnap my little sister.

(This is also an embarrassing story. But not quite as much.)"

Summary: Ekanu and Denifar on the vision isle. (250 words)

Note: This ficlet is another snippet of "Harvest," this one set sometime after Harvest: Downwind -- I'm inclined to think perhaps the next morning?

Harvest: Stepping Stones )

I would really like to finish "Harvest" by the end of the year...

I continued not to work on "Guardian." *sigh*

Instead, this afternoon I wrote a tiny 250 word snippet from Harvest, a woefully unfinished original story. Then tonight I copypasted that into the full story document and did about two thirds of the work necessary to blend it into the existing words. I think I just need one or two more sentences, mostly to describe the scenery in proper sensory detail and layout, and then I'll be good to pick up on the continuing 'Ekanu and Denifar argue about sixty different things which are all stand-ins for arguing about their relationship' plot thread. After which I need to have some kind of meteorological event that Ekanu can take as a spiritual sign and Denifar can take as a perfectly natural phenomenon, because I like to maintain a firmly agnostic stance toward all my fictional religions. :)

For future reference, "Harvest" is now a touch over 15,000 words. Once I finally get Ekanu and Denifar back off the vision island (and back into a semi-functional friendship rather than an extremely dysfunctional romance), I need to wrap up Ekanu's temporary posting in Ileara and ship her back off to Vinaeo for training as a chapterhouse inspector in preparation for her trip to Yanomy... where I have two other unfinished stories waiting for me, ugh.

Writing is such a pain.
