I grew up in New Jersey. I used to think there was no way I could be surprised by stories about corrupt and/or dysfunctional state governments.

Then I moved to New York.

*headdesk*

Gov. Spitzer -- Mr. "I will clean up the government!", Mr. "I have the moral high ground so I don't have to compromise!" -- has been linked to a prostitution ring.

*beats head on table some more*

In other news, Doctor Who is beginning to loosen its death grip on my brain, and I've started writing again... just a little. :-) I may have the next part of "An Ounce of Prevention" up Wednesday or Thursday. *crosses fingers*

It's probably terrible that my first (...okay, third) reaction was "How is this going to affect the Democratic presidential primary, and then the actual real election? What if people start thinking we're as bad as the Republicans!"

What really gets me is that when he was state attorney general, he busted other people for being involved in prostitution rings. You'd think, after that, that he'd know better (even if, for whatever reason, he was enough of a scumbucket to want to do this).

I was able to use more of the scrapped version of the chapter than I'd expected -- it was mostly a matter of cutting the first couple paragraphs, dropping a particular bit of business, and tightening a lot -- then I could move on to the other half of the scene, which had previously been shunted off to the next chapter by a bunch of blah.

You know, when I saw that headline in the NYT, I had a sudden feeling come over me. I puzzled over it for a while, trying to figure out what it was, but it didn't come to me until an hour later.

Schadenfreude. Rather cruel of me, but seriously, such a pompous ass deserves it.

I don't feel bad for Spitzer. Mostly, now that I've gotten over being shocked silly, I'm furious. He's causing such a giagantic mess... and I feel awfully sorry for his wife.
